Carl E. Able is an actively serving Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. A California native, he joined the Marine Corps in December 2004 and spent his first two enlistments serving under the restrictions of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Soon after, he began work in LGBT advocacy following the repeal of DADT in 2011. After being elected by members of OutServe’s National Capital Region chapter in 2012, he organized and led the first contingent of openly-serving service members in the Capital Pride parade. He also worked with students at Frederick Community College to coordinate and chair a panel discussion on the impacts of DADT on the LGBT service member both pre- and post-repeal.
